Alex Ross’ style is one of a kind, combining a deep respect for the past while looking forward at the same time, and this is on full display in the preview pages for Fantastic Four: Full Circle. Since then, Ross’ work has graced numerous books as well as countless covers Ross has also lent his talent to album covers and posters for the Academy Awards as well. Ross would have similar success three years later at DC Comics, alongside writer Mark Waid, with the miniseries Kingdom Come. The combination of the book’s unabashedly nostalgic take on Marvel history, combined with Ross’ epic fully-painted visuals, made Marvels a smash hit. He broke into the comics mainstream with 1993’s Marvels, with writer Kurt Busiek. Alex Ross is one of the most distinctive illustrators in comics history.
